A Convenient Truth: a better society for us and the planet

Event starts:

Monday 24 November 2014, 6.30-8pm | Grand committee room (off Westminster Hall), House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

This event will launch ‘A Convenient Truth: a better society for us and the planet’, the latest pamphlet by the authors of The Spirit Level, Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett.

‘A Convenient Truth’ sets out a path towards a society that’s better for us and the planet. Inequality drives status insecurity, which fuels the consumerism that is destroying our planet. But the things we buy aren’t making us any happier: the link between economic development and real improvements in quality of life is broken in rich societies.

  • Presentation: Richard Wilkinson, co-author, ‘A Convenient Truth’ and The Spirit Level
  • Response: Alison McGovern MP, shadow minister for children and families
  • Response: Stephen Bush, assistant comment editor, Daily Telegraph
  • Chair: Ruth Davis, political director, Greenpeace
