This event is part of the Fabian fringe at Labour party conference 2016, and is being held in partnership with the Trades Union Congress.
A number of economists are forecasting a revolution in the world of work that will see a ‘rise of the robots’ and a structural reshaping of the labour market. As technology becomes more advanced, more available, and more affordable, we could start to see low and middle skilled jobs replaced by machines and artificial intelligence.
However, other commentators reject this dystopian vision of the future, pointing to previous periods of industrial change in which more jobs have been created than destroyed.
This event will bring together leading figures from business, trade unions and the Labour Party to discuss what the changing world of work will mean for workers, and what we need to do about it.
Speakers include: Yvette Cooper MP (Labour MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford), Frances O’Grady (general secretary, Trades Union Congress). Chaired by Jim Waterson (political editor, BuzzFeed)
