Phillip Blond, head of the progressive conservative thinktank ResPublica, argued that Cameron represented a new type of conservatism while Tim Montgomerie, founder of ConservativeHome, argued that he had in fact rediscovered traditional Conservative values.

Editor of The Spectator Fraser Nelson clearly agreed more strongly with the idea of Cameron as a major shift, "Is Cameron a revolutionary? [I] hope he will be as much of a revolutionary as Thatcher." Tim Horton, Fabian Society Research Director, was more sceptical about the changes as he argued that much of the change may only be superficial.
